Transitioning to the New Normal
Transitioning to the New Normal
With COVID restrictions easing, many of us are experiencing excitement and delight, while also encountering some unexpected (or totally expected) fears. So how do we manage? TWC has three recommendations to support you along your way.
1. PACE YOURSELF. Each of us is responsible for finding a pace that feels sustainable. While some of us may be eager to sprint to social gatherings, others may opt to stall and insist on never leaving the home. Within each of us, we have to find a flow where more often than not, we genuinely feel nourished (mentally, emotionally, physically and socially). Start to become aware of the people, places and activities that GIVE you energy – so that you are more likely to prioritize these items, leaving you feeling replenished and refuelled.
2. FOCUS ON YOUR OWN FLOW. Everyone is going to have a different flow – and we must learn to honour where we are truly at. Therefore, do not compare your return to normalcy to others. Everyone is going to have their own pace – so focus on what feels right within, as opposed to what appears best for others. This current moment is an incredible opportunity to truly learn about yourself and identify your needs, limits and expectations.
3. FUEL UP. And more importantly – remember the importance of rest! Living through lockdown often felt like groundhog day. However, the truth is that the repetition and constant sense of uncertainty resulted in so many of us experiencing symptoms of burnout. Therefore, ensure you fuel yourself properly. Prioritize that workout! Honour that meditation. Be deliberate in keeping a gratitude journal. And do not compromise your sleep. Please be diligent in getting proper rest and taking the time you need to catch your breath.
